Batticaloa Gate is a monument used as a port to connect Puliyanthivu with the mainland of Batticaloa, Sri Lanka.
Batticaloa Gate is a monument used as a port to connect Puliyanthivu (island) with the mainland of Batticaloa, Sri Lanka. The place believed as the landing site of Rev. William Ault, who was the first Methodist missionary to Batticaloa, in 1814. His statue can be seen closer to the Batticaloa Gate.
Batticaloa Gate and its surrounding areas are under renovation as part of the Batticaloa development project.
Mahatma Gandhi Park
A modern park named after Indian leader Mahatma Gandhi, located on Batticaloa’s Bazaar street. This is a great spot to relax and take in the views of the lagoon and small canoes filled with fishermen
A paved park area beside the sea. Good for cycling, jogging or just hanging out enjoying the view, although it can get really hot on sunny afternoons
The park also features the recently constructed Batticaloa Gate, a welcoming arch to the harbour, and a gold-coloured statue of Mahatma Gandhi.
