Along this part of the coast, stilt fishermen are a common sight. Watch carefully as fishermen seated precariously on a narrow stretch of wood; their backs bent in a graceful arc, peer into the depths of the ocean and gently lower their fishing rods. An old tradition practised by around 500 fishing families in Galle, it is a striking sight observing the fishermen balancing expertly on a thin plank.

Habaraduwa Beach
Away from the hustle and bustle of the other coastal areas of the Southern coast, Habaraduwa is a peaceful town which has breathtaking beaches which are the widest in the south
.Resonating an atmosphere of peace and tranquillity, Habaraduwa Beach is home to the famed Sea Turtle Farm and Hatchery – a nonprofit organization established to conserve turtles. Admired by nature lovers, the organization combats the extinction of rare sea turtle varieties by hatching the turtles in incubators and releasing them into the ocean. If you are lucky, you can experience the joy of releasing these baby turtles back into the ocean, leaving you with the knowledge that you played a part in helping a species survive.
Along this stretch of sea, stilt fishing is a common sight. The mesmerizing beaches provide a breathtaking backdrop with the fishermen perched on their vertical poles with crossbars.
