History
During King Devanampiyatissa’s reign in the eighth century, Namal Uyana served as a retreat for Buddhist monks. Later, it was used as a prison camp, with the punishment of planting Na trees. During the reign of King Dappula, it was designated as a human sanctuary. A Buddhist monk, Venerable Wanawasi Rahula Thero, brought this unique natural place to the world’s attention nearly 15 years ago.
Namal Uyana houses a cap engraving created during the reign of King Devanam Piyatissa. A stone pinnacle discovered in the Ulpathagama region on Adiyagala street proves that the fourth Dappula declared this backwoods a safe haven. According to the Adiyagala engraving, even the lord was unable to apprehend the offenders who entered the region now known as Namal Uyana.
As a result, according to the Adiyagala engraving, this region was clearly the primary human safe-haven on the planet, providing asylum to both creatures and people. The recorded data of the space beneath the Thiruvana mountain range is still being examined, and getting to that space is difficult. A stone Bodhi tree, a sculpture house, a stone house, a home house, and a moon light are all present.
Rose Quartz Mountain Range
A total of 105 acres cover the pink Thiruvana mountain range, which has seven mountains. This mountain range is estimated to be 500 million years old.
Furthermore, this mountain range is between 180 and 300 meters above sea level. According to legend, pink Thiruvana was obtained from this mountain range during the construction of the Taj Mahal in India. Namal Uyana has a rock, and a stream flowing down from Mount Rose Thiruvana falls into this stone bowl.
In the past, villagers referred to this mountain as the “Salt Rock Fork.” According to the villagers, the heat that comes out and the spring water that soaks up the essence of the Thiruvana Mountain can cure a variety of diseases.
The mountain’s color has faded due to sunburn and water. The color of the mountain has been reduced by the surface layer. The mountain is purple for about 1-2 feet. At the top of the hill, there is a Buddha statue.
