Pilimathalawa is a Kandy suburb in Kandy District, Sri Lanka. The town is located 10 kilometres from Kandy, the district capital, and 104 kilometres from Colombo. In Sinhalese, “Thalawa” refers to a flat area. “Pilima” refers to the statues. Those may or may not have created the real name. Pilimathalawa, also spelt Pilimatalawa, is the modern spelling of the ancient village name. This village is well-known for its Traditional Brassware. Pilimathalawa is home to the Theological College of Lanka, as well as Gadaladeniya, Lankathilaka Buddhist temples, and Embekka temple.
