Abhayagiri Museum

Another place to learn about Sri Lanka’s oldest sacred city, Anuradhapura, is the Abhayagiri museum. The Chinese government funded the Abhayagiri Museum as a result of our long-standing friendship. It is an excellent opportunity for tourists from all over the world to learn more about the Anuradhapura Kingdom and the Abhayagiri monastery. The valuable ancient discoveries were in jeopardy because there was nowhere to recover them. Some were stacked in the same location where they were discovered. As a result, it serves as a home for archaeological discoveries that demonstrate and promote the combination and inter-ethnic support between Sri Lankans and Chinese.

The Abhayagiriya museum has represented the era’s cultural and religious heritage. Anuradhapura, as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, must be preserved. In 412 AD, Chinese monk Fa hiiyun, a Buddhist explorer and researcher, visited the dagoba and recorded evidence that there were approximately 4000 monks in residence at the Abhayagiri complex. He intended to translate Buddhist texts.The thero had returned to China with his records.

Artefacts

The museum contained sculptures, jewellery, pottery, ornaments, glass, tiles, handicrafts, and other items discovered while excavating the entire site. Archaeological excavators discovered some artefacts near the Abhayagiriya monastery in 2011. They are also on display at the museum. As a result, the ruins will no longer fall into the hands of robbers. Take care not to damage or steal any monuments. It is a grave disrespect to our forefathers. They may even chastise you in your dreams

The records of Fa Hiyun, which date back to the Anuradhapura kingdom, contain a wealth of information about monasteries, tooth relics, Dagobas, the history of civilization, and religious practices at the time. Instead of such global connections, Sinhalese were able to develop their knowledge and skills.
