Anuradhapura Folk Museum

Anuradhapura Folk Museum is a museum in Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka. It is situated near the Anuradhapura Archaeological Museum.

The museum serves to exhibit objects used by the folk community of Sri Lanka and reflects the lifestyle of the rural peasantry that gradually transits to modern style. the museum has a variety of traditional objects such as tools of cultivation, kitchen utensils, medical equipment, musical items, etc.

History of the  Anuradhapura Folk Museum

The museum was founded on August 22, 1971, to preserve the Nuwara-Kalaviya people’s lifestyle and household objects in the Anuradhapura area (Rambukwella, 2014).

Museum

The museum houses artefacts related to Buddhist temples, Devalas, and objects related to folk sports, music, dance, foods, and so on. Books, traditional Sinhalese household equipment, betel-chewing equipment, ancient traditional medicine objects, arms and armaments, textiles and clothes, ornaments, various types of household items, boxes and bags made of various materials, coins and currency, various types of scales and measuring tools, traditional arts and craft objects, domestic husbandry utensils, implements related to Chena cultivation and ancient traditional agriculture, and various types of oblique  (Rambukwella, 2014).
