Pettah Market
The Pettah Market, located in the Colombo district of Pettah and more specifically on Market Street, is renowned for being one of the busiest open marketplaces in the country’s western urban area. There are salespeople of every type in the area if you want to buy something from the wide variety of stalls, including fruit, vegetables, fish, jewellery, clothes, and lottery tickets if you feel really daring. One of the most fun things to do in Colombo is shop.
The Kayman Gate was given its name because the Dutch kept crocodiles in the fort’s moat to keep their slaves and prisoners from fleeing. The Pettah market has a history that extends back to the colonial era. The most well-known and colorful landmarks on the borders of the market square are the Red Mosque and the Khan Clock Tower. There isn’t much more that can be said about the Pettah Market outside what is necessary to mention. It is undoubtedly something to be experienced up near and personal.
